North of the mountain lake, the trees begin their steady climb up the slopes of Mount Baratok, its monolithic presence oppressive at this distance. The ground here is rocky, uneven, and tiring to navigate. Even the wolves avoid this neck of the woods.Mount Baratok
Mount Baratok is the largest peak in Barovia. Due to its incredibly difficult terrain, there is very little life to be found in the area.
Mad Mage in the Mountains
About a year before the Sunseekers arrived in Barovia, a mysterious mage formed a small militia and fought Strahd in Ravenloft. It was believed by most that the mage was slain in battle, but there were rumors that he lost his mind in the mountains recovering from the fight. The Sunseekers found that the Mad Mage was actually the Baron's son Victor Vallakovich from the future who came back to beat Strahd in this point in time.
